IOS Game Center
The Game Center is a native application on IOS devices that is targeted to become a social gaming platform for IOS games. However, the current Game Center fails to provide some basic functionality for players to communicate and interact. The IOS Game Center needs to be redesigned to help players get better connected with other players, get personalized feed of games, and team up with friends easily.
I adopted user-centered methodology when designing the new prototype. I started with analyzing use case and developing personas to understand users’ needs. This gives me a general idea of what features I need to design.
Ⅰ. User Analysis
I interviewed 5 users about how they interact with current game center and what features they wish to see. I summarized the gaps between the current user interface and what users need.
I depicted a primary persona which is synthesized from observations of interviewees. This enables me to focus on a manageable and memorable cast of characters.
I used storyboard to capture the use cases that I want to design for. This gives me a clear picture of how users going to interact with the applications and helps me to design the right transitions to let users to achieve their goal easily.
Based on analysis above, I designed messaging for players to communicate, feed and recommendation for players to keep updated and informed, and the invitation for them to interact and participate. When designing details, I think of user’s workflow and the storyboard’s transition to provide reasonable interactions. For example, one of the great needs of players is to be able to make friends while playing games, but it can’t be distracting since there is also a great chance that users don’t want to add friends at this time. So I used top banners to show the opportunity to add friends while not interrupting the game flow. The interactive prototype can be viewed here: http://s4ddld.axshare.com/.
